![]() On Tuesday September 6th at 7:30PM we held our first event of the year, the traditional Camp ACDA kick-off meeting. For new members, Camp ACDA serves primarily as an introduction to the organization of ACDA, to our returning members, and to our wonderful faculty advisor, Dr. Janet Galván. Many traditions that we, returning members, hold dear are packed into this annual event. Every year, we have s'mores, dirt pudding, and ants on a log (as depicted above) at our meeting to promote our camp theme. Also in this picture are our E-Board Secretary Laura Stedge, E-Board Member at Large Virginia Douglas, E-Board Public Relations Officer Anne Brady, and a very enthusiastic member of our chapter Imogen Mills (left to right). Our first order of business at the meeting was to get to know each other, with a fun ice breaker involving animal noises and laughs all around. Then, Dr. Janet Galván arrived and introduced herself to the new members. She talked a little bit about what it means to be a part of ACDA and, specifically, what it means be a part of our student chapter. We were also excited to welcome Dr. Sean Linfors, who is new to Ithaca College, into our meeting, and we asked him to share some reasons why he loves ACDA. After the faculty had introduced themselves, our chapter president, Laura White, provided us with an overview of events for the year ahead. There is so much to look forward to! Next, we kept true to tradition and went around the room and asked each person, along with their name and major, what kitchen utensil they would be. Of course I was a pizza cutter because they are so much fun to use and, more importantly, who doesn't love pizza! Last, but certainly not least, we sent the members off on the annual scavenger hunt. This infamous scavenger hunt involves a set of clues placed throughout the Whalen School of Music that send our members on a wild goose chase for a chance at bragging rights for the next year to come. The best part about this event this year was that we successfully got 40 members to join or rejoin our student chapter of ACDA! But the fermata on the sus chord is that 20 of those members are NEW!! We are incredibly excited to have started our year off with a BANG! Stay tuned to see what is in store for IC ACDA. -Matthew Coveney, IC ACDA Public Relations Officer
