Today I had a GREAT face to face session with Rollo Dilworth! Face to Face Sessions are a wonderful opportunity where conference participants get to sign up to spend 15 minutes with several big names in choral music such as Jake Runestad and Craig Hella Johnson. In my case- I signed up to meet with Rollo Dilworth. We had a wonderful 15 minute conversation that FLEW by, and we even got to finish our conversation when I saw him later that morning.
In our conversation we talked about a variety of topics: Teaching music to changing voices, affirming students of all races and cultures in choral music, community children's choirs and how they can supplement music in schools, incorporating ideas like the "Reality Pedagogy" in choral singing, and everything in between! One of the highlights was when we talked about programming that affirmed all students. Dr. Dilworth said he never programs a concert without having one piece by a woman and one piece by an African American composer. This is a tradition I hope to bring into my own teaching.. The conversation was inspiring and I can't wait to hear more from him as the conference moves on. Check out our selfie! -Rebecca Saltzman (ICACDA President and Senior)
