![]() Order and Chaos both have their places in the choral classroom. The workshop, facilitated by Dr. Jason Vodicka, encouraged us all to create more active dialogue in our rehearsals. By creating dialogue among members of your choir, you can engage them in a student-centered experience that makes them equal members in the learning process. During this session, we broke into section circles and had to facilitate our own little rehearsal and sectionals. I had the opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and get in the middle of our circle to conduct! This pushed me to think critically and really focus on different aspects of what I would like to hear from my section. Focused and intentional dialogue also increases understanding of specific concepts and helps diagnose misunderstandings. I am excited to open more dialogues in my rehearsal and create environments that are conducive of critical thinking, musical independence, and excellence. -Daniel Block '17
